Accountability Is Not Just What You Do - It's Who You Are

Sometimes I find myself in situations where I wish I had just a *little* more time in my day. More time for myself, more time for my family, more time to do the things I want to do instead of the things that I have to do.

I'm fortunate enough that I'm able to work from home. It gives me the ability to be present for my daughters. Every morning they get a home cooked meal for breakfast, a freshly packed lunch, and some quality time together. Then I'll wash the dishes, walk the dogs, and go on with my day. It's a routine that I've created for myself and I try my best to follow it strictly.

However - life does happen. Kids get sick, dogs have accidents, I'll miss my alarm. That's when I catch myself thinking about how it's not fair that I have so much on my plate but not enough time. That's also when I have to remind myself that I need to switch my mindset. Having a solid work/life/school balance is essential for me to not feel overwhelmed and it keeps me accountable. It is easier to split everything going on in my life into smaller sections and tackle them one at a time, one day at a time, instead of trying to do everything at once and having no one to blame but myself.

I am only human, and a busy one at that. It wouldn't make sense for me to not do the things I need to do to make my life easier and more manageable in the long run. No one is responsible for me, but me.

Responsibility equals accountability equals ownership. And a sense of ownership is the most powerful weapon a team or organization can have. -Pat Summit

  1. Great Quote. I also find myself looking for time, but there is never enough time, so it comes down to balancing what is important for us. For me, whenever I am not at work I try to spend as much time with my family because I know Time waits for no one.

  2. Christine, I understand and agree with your post. It's a lot to take on, but we are strong moms, and we can do it all :)

  3. Very inspiring! Sometimes I think our ability to hold ourselves accountable improves as we rise to the circumstances that requires it. Your experience and circumstances creates a good model not only for your daughters, but also for the rest of society.
